No Way Out 2000

No Way Out 2000
February 27th from Hartford Civic Centre, Connecticut.

Back Ground:

At the Royal Rumble Triple H and Cactus Jack would fight in a Street Fight Match for the WWF Championship, which was won by Triple H. The next night on Raw Triple H would grant Cactus another chance at the title at the PPV No Way Out and that the match can be any kind he wants. Cactus would later decide that the match will be a Hell in a Cell. Triple H said that it was deal only if he would put his career on the line, which he would agree to. Over the next few weeks Triple H would start predicting that he would end the fifteen year career of Mick Foley.
Another feud heading into No Way Out was between The Rock and The Big Show over who should get the chance to face for the WWF Championship at Wrestlemania. The feud began at the Royal Rumble in the Royal Rumble Match, The Rock and The Big Show were the last two competitors in the match both trying to throw each other over the rope. Both wrestlers fell out of the ring hitting the floor, The Rock hit the floor first but the officials thought The Big Show hit the ground first making The Rock the winner of the Royal Rumble. The next night on Raw The Big Show complained that it was no fair that nobody saw what happened so he got evidence and sent it to Triple H. Triple H would later make a match between The Rock and The Big Show at No Way Out where the winner will get the WWF Championship Chance at WrestleMania.

The Event:
The opening video has Cactus Jack saying it's his last chance to headline Wrestlemania and Triple H is standing in his way. There are various shots of Mick being put through Tacks, Tabls and taking multiple Chair Shots. A great video to add to the stipulation for tonights match.

J.R & Jerry Lawler are our announcers stating Cactus Jack has to win the title of he will be fired.

Match 1:

Kurt Angle Vs Chris Jericho (C) for the Intercontinental Championship

Kurt comes out to boo's and cuts a promo on Hertford saying he will come back in the future and be the hero the town deserves. Chyna comes out to her own entrance for some reason, she is not even in this match. Jericho comes out to a massive reaction and cuts a promo calling Kurt Angle-Kirk Angel and calls him a jackass, an idiot, an imbecile and an ignoramus. Kurt Angle is also the European Champion.

Lots of back and forth goes on to start the match until Jericho performs a Springboard Dropkick to Kurt on the outside. They brawl on the outside, Jericho performs an amazing Asai Moonsault to Kurt as he is running to the steel steps. On the inside Kurts hits a Belly To Belly Suplex from the second rope. Lots of Jericho chants and Angle sucks chants. Kurt starts working on the left arm of Jericho, Jericho gets his momentum back from a bulldog.
As Kurt goes for a Hurricanruna, Jericho counters and hits a Double Powerbomb. Angle gets a Cross-Arm Breaker submission on Jericho and hits an Olympic Slam out of knowhere for a 2 count which J.R can't believe. Angle goes to grab the belt but when he gets back into the ring Jericho gets the Walls Of Jericho on Kurt but he makes it to the ropes. They fight to the outside where Kurt goes to hit Chyna with the belt but misses and Jericho takes both Kurt and Chyna out.
The referee is making sure Chyna is ok and back in the ring Jericho goes for another Asai Moonsault but Kurt hits Jericho in the face with the belt and gets the win. Kurt now has 2 titles and two referees have an argument about the finish of the match.

Winner and New Intercontinental Champion: Kurt Angle
Match Time: 10:14

A good solid opener and Kurt gets the heat for his cheating victory, Chyna served her purpose in the end.
Rating: 6/10

Michael Cole is interviewing the Dudleyz. They say they will become the new Tag Team Champions. I hate Bubba-Ray when he spoke like a slow idiot, he says they have 2 words for the Outlaws... 3D.

Match 2:

Dudley Boyz Vs. New Age Outlaws (C) for the World Tag Team Championships

The Outlaws are out first and do their usual stuff, Lawler starts barking like a dog which sounded strange. Road Dogg says "they are going to do it doggystyle, but not with each other" refering to Mr Ass which was funny. They shows a video of Mr Ass doing a Fameasser on Bubba through a table which looked impressive.
Bubba hits a Bubba Bomb early on to Road Dogg then a "Whats Up" two big moves early on. They then beat the crap out of Road Dogg for the next 4 minutes. They announce that Terri is back as the Dudleyz put her through a table a few weeks back. Road Dogg gets a hot tag to Mr Ass, he hits a Famerasser on Devon for a 2 count, Road Dogg does his Kneedrop for a 2 count but as he argues with the referee, Bubba hits Mr Ass with a lead pipe on the outside. They hit a 3-D on Road Dogg for the win and we have new champs.
The Outlaws argue after the match as Road Dogg didn't know where Mr Ass was, definatly teasing a break up here.

Winners and New Tag Team Champions: Dudley Boyz
Match Time: 5:20

Basically a squash match as Dudleys beat the hell out of Road Dogg then got the win. The Outlaws had about 3 offensive moves in the match. This could have been longer and better booked.
Rating: 2/10

They cut to Kurt Angle celebrating with the fans out in the concession stand, this was weird as Kurt is a heel and the fans should not be cheering fo his win.

They then show a segment from Raw where Viscera does a Big Splash onto a "pregnant 77 year old" Mae Young, then Mark Henry "Father of unborn child" attacks Viscera on Heat leading to this impromptue match. Why could'nt the Tag Team match have been longer? I could not care less about this match.

Match 3:
Mark Henry Vs. Viscera

J.R admits early on that this will not be a great match which is promising. J.R says Mark Henry has the worlds strongest sperm to which Lawler comes back saying Mae Young has the worlds strongest ovaries. The commentary is better than the match. They brawl to the outside, Viscera throws Henry into the steel steps twice, we get a "boring" chant from the crowd which were my thoughts exactly. Mae Young does a run in but the cameras go out. Apparently Henry hits the strongest slam on Viscera which we didnt see until the match was over.

Winner: Mark Henry
Match Time: 3:44

This match sucked! Why was it on this card? and the end was missed due to technical difficulties. I hope to never see these two wrestle again.
Rating: 0/10

In the back, Lillian Garcia is with Jericho who does a short promo on Kurt Angle or Kirk Angel and tells him to stop celebrating.

Match 4:
Hardy Boyz (with Terri) Vs. Edge & Christian

Terri is back and wearing a ridiculously short top which barely covers her boobs. This match is for the number 1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles. The A.P.A come out as Terri has payed them to protect her from the Dudleyz. Jeff misses a Whisper In The Wind early on. The Harys hit a Double Leg Drop on Christian then take their tops off for no reason. Jerry Lawler says Terri should take hers off. J.R gets mixed up between Matt and Jeff. Matt is taunting Christian to "get up" which sounded really fake. Jeff hits a great looking Springboard Moonsault onto Christian. Christian gets the hot tag to Edge then Christian does a flying cross body over the top rope to Matt. The crowd seems very dead for this match which is a shame, I blame Mark Henry & Viscera.
Christian does a Drop Toe Hold to Edge which makes his head hit Jeff in the groin which looked great. Edge and Jeff do some great counters which leads to a sick Piledriver by Edge. Jeff hits a Hurricanruna on Edge but as he does it he lands on his head which looked sick. Jeff goes for another Hurricanruna but Edge counters into a Power Bomb. Matt gets the hot tag and somehow both teams get a crazy double pin going. Matt and Jeff hit a Splash/Leg Drop combo from the ropes to Christian. Edge catches Jeff with a Spear in mid air which looked great.
Matt gets the Twist Of Fate on Edge, Jeff gets up on the ropes but Terri gets up on the apron and pushes Jeff off which looks ridiculous as it was the weakest push I have ever seen. She then slaps Matt and Christian does the Unprettier for the win. Terri looks to have aligned herself with Edge and Christian to their confusion. After the match Matt tries to attach Terri but the A.P.A destroy the Hardy's, Faarooq botches the Dominator on Jeff and lands Jeff on his head.

Winners and Number 1 contenders for the Tag Team Titles: Edge & Christian
Match Time: 15:05

A good match with some great spots. The crowd didn't seem into it but i thought it was OK even with the confusing Terri heel turn.
Rating: 6/10

We go to the back where Lillian Garcia is interviewing Big Show about The Rock and their controversial Rumble ending. He shows a video where it shows The Rock's feet touch the floor before Big Show's and claims he should be going to Wrestlemania.

Match 5:
Big Boss Man (with Albert) Vs. Tazz

Before the match they show a video where Albert beats down Tazz in the back so Albert is in the corner of Big Boss Man. Tazz comes out and attacks Big Boss Man before entering the ring. The match starts and Tazz T-Bone Suplex's Boss Man then puts the Tazzmission on him, but Albert comes in and attacks Tazz causing a Disqualification. They beat Tazz down as the crowd shout "Boring" (They are not wrong tonight). Boss Man breaks a nightstick over Tazz's head to end it.

Winner by D/Q: Tazz
Match Time: 1:23

On the last PPV Tazz came in strong defeating Kurt Angle, now he is in a minute match with Big Boss Man. I Didn't get this match, it felt like a match they have on Heat, not worthy of being on the PPV.
Rating: 0/10

Kurt Angle now has a megaphone in the crowd and is still celebrating.

A video is now shown about X-Pac and Kane, they were apparently bro's until X-Pac turned on Kane and slept with Kane's girlfriend Tori. Paul Bearer returns and has Kane Tombstone Tori. The next week on Smackdown X-Pac gets revenge on Kane by using a flame-thrower to blast him in the FACE!! This looked crazy and by rights Kane should be in the hospital.

Match 6:
X-Pac (with Tori) Vs. Kane (with Paul Bearer) in a No Disqualification match.

J.R is calling Tori "Tombstone Tori" after what Kane did to her the other week. Kane looked so much better with a mask and looked like he could do more damage. X-Pac goes to leave but Kane catches up to him and beats him. X-Pac hits Kane with a trash can but Kane gets mad and beats the hell out of X-Pac. X-Pac hits Kane with the ring bell and Paul Bearer tries to get involved but Tori slaps him. In the ring X-Pac does the Bronco Buster. He then tries to do a heel trip on Kane but botches it and J.R says "nice heel trip". X-Pac hits Kane with a X-Factor but Kane sits straight up.
Tori gets up on the apron but Kane Chokeslams X-Pac, she then gets into the ring and gets Tombstoned by Kane. X-Pac dropkicks some steel steps that were in the ring into Kane's face and pin's Kane while the steps are on top of him.

Winner: X-Pac
Match Time: 7:50

Another awful match. After being Flamed in the face by X-Pac you would think this would have got more time, Paul Bearer and Tori got involved which I suppose was expected and the ending wasn't great.
Rating: 3/10

Michael Cole is interviewing The Radicalz who are appearing in their first PPV. Eddie is not competing as he has a dislocated elbow but has a lead pipe. Maybe it was the pipe that the Dudleys used on Mr Ass earlier in the night.

Match 7:
Too Cool Vs. The Radicalz.

Eddie goes for the lead pipe on Rikishi straight away but Rikishi hits Eddie on his elbow and then Eddie goes to the back. (That was worth it!) Too Cool beat up Benoit, Rikishi Stinkface's him. He then gets the tag and The Radicalz all take it in turns to attack Rikishi's injured leg. The Radicalz out wrestle Too Cool, they look a joke in this match. They have such great chemistry between them. They keep Scotty 2 Hotty for a good 5 minutes with a Hurricanruna from Saturn, Chops by Benoit, Suplex's by Malenko. Benoit and Scotty hit heads which leads to the hot tag to Rikishi who does his sick Rikishi Driver on Saturn.
Scotty 2 Hotty does the Worm to a big pop. Grandmaster Sexay does the Hip Hop Drop on Saturn but Benoit does a Flying Headbutt from the ropes onto Grandmaster Sexay. Rikishi does his Rikishi Driver on Malenko then the Bonzai drop for the win. They then dance to finish the match.

Winners: Too Cool
Match Time: 13:30

A pretty good match, The Radicalz are great wrestlers on their own and together. They made Too Cool look a joke. I didn't get the Eddie lead pipe angle because why did it happen at the start of the match? I though The Radicalz would win this match but the ending was still good.
Rating: 5/10

Kurt Angle is still in the lobby celebrating.

Next is a video of the Royal Rumble where The Rock wins. Big Show tries to prove his point to Triple H and Stephanie who give Big Show the match for tonight against The Rock for the Number 1 contendership. The Rock gor thrown through a window by Big Show on Raw which looked fantastic.

Match 8:
Big Show Vs. The Rock to be the Number One Contender at Wrestlemania.

The Rock comes out to a massive pop! Only two people can get that reaction, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin, it's disappointing that no-one gets that reaction now. The Rock goes for Rock Bottom but gets thrown to the outside. They brawl on the outside and they definatly go over the 10 count but who cares. (It was actually 3min 30sec!) The Rock makes a come back and hits a DDT, The Big show then brings a chair into the ring. There's a ref bump as The Rock runs into Earl Hebner.
Big Show Chokeslams The Rock, another ref runs out but Earl Hebner pulls him out of the ring when he was making the count. Shane McMahon then comes out as the two refs fight on the outside which is the weirdest thing i've seen. The Rock hits Rock Bottom then goes for the People's Elbow but Shane hits him with a steel chair. Big Show covers Rock for the win making Big Show Number One Contender.

Winner and Number One Contender: Big Show
Match Time: 9:33

A short match considering it was one of the main angles coming into this PPV. It was very overbooked and should have been over sooner as they fought outside for 3 minutes. It wasn't even a No D/Q. Big Show and The Rock don't really work well together either.
Rating: 5/10

Next a video about Hell In A Cell. All the great visuals of Shawn Michaels and Mankind falling off the cell. After their match at the Rumble i wonder what will happen. After all Mick Foley was in the most brutal Hell In A Cell.

Kurt Angle then gets attacked backstage by Chris Jericho and Chyna. He gets put into the trunk of his own car. Jericho did warn Angle to stop celebrating.

Match 9:

Triple H (C) Vs. Cactus Jack for the WWF Championship.

The build up to this match has made me really want Cactus Jack to win as Mick Foley has never headlined Wrestlemania.
He starts off by beating Triple H and slams him repeatedly into the cage. Triple H does a flying Knee into Jack into the cage. He then throws Jack into the steps which looks like Jack broke his kneecaps. Triple H throws the steps at Jack's head which looked sick! Jack hits a Double Arm DDT onto a chair to Triple H, he then hits a Russian Leg Sweep onto the chair. Triple H Drop Toe Hold Jack onto the steel chair. Jack then gets repeatedly thrown into the cage again. Jack catapults Triple H into the cage and gets busted open. He then gets his head raked on the cage and gets confirmed by J.R as "a crimson mass".  Jack Elbow Drops a chair onto Triple H and then throws the steps at him but Triple H moves out of the way and the steps make a hole in cage. Jack then throws Triple H through the hole in the cage to the outside.
Jack then hits a rather sick looking Piledriver onto the announce table which doesn't break. This must have hurt Triple H's head. Jack then finds his barb wire bat and hits Triple H in the face. They fight to the top of the cell and Triple H rubs the bat into Jack's face and he falls off the cell through the table. J.R tries to sell this is worse as when The Undertaker threw him off the cell but it sounds false. Jack gets up and then tries throwing a steel chair to the top of the cell 3 times but he keeps missing! I thought when he threw it up one time it would fall into the front row. He the gives up and climbs up to the top of the cell and Suplex's then DDT'S Triple H. Jack sets the bat on Fire!
He then hits Triple H with the flaming bat which looked crazy. Jack gets Backdropped through the cell roof and through the damn ring!! A "Holy Shit" chant now breaks out, which is exactly what I thought. This looked great and I thought Jack was dead. Somehow Jack gets up but Triple H hits the Pedigree for the win, which the crowd boo's as everyone wanted Jack to win. They replay the Backdrop loads of times from different angles and it looks great from every one. J.R puts Foley over big time at the end which was nice and the crowd chants "Foley" to finish the show. What a great moment.

Winner and still WWF Champion: Triple H
Match Time: 23:59

Another great match between Triple H and Cactus Jack, I didn't think this could be possible as the Rumble match was great.  Alot of great spots in this match and the ending was great. No interference in the match was a plus and J.R putting Foley over at the end was amazing. I wanted Jack to win but it was a great match so I didn't mind.
Rating: 8/10

PPV Rating:

A very very poor card. I know it's the one before Wrestlemania so they usually don't like to change much but there was 2 title changes and some very poor matches that should be put on Heat. This did not make sense to me and really hurt this PPV. The main event was great but Big Show Vs. The Rock should have been longer.

Rating: 3/10
